Lobster Study I

I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar by Elizabeth Waggett

This nobel, yet vulnerable creature is presented in such a way that it is at one with its background. Creature and context flow in harmony, as the lobster does in its place in the natural world. The claw, highlighted in various pure karat golds, brings the symbolic notion of freedom, usually bound and desired most for its claw, the status of the Lobster is questioned in our conscience. A fitting metaphor for the unforgiving shifts of societal norms. Balancing empathy and greed, two natural human desires, is a delicate business. This fine art drawing/painting technique takes hours of intense concentration before a final gilding of 24 karat gold leaf is applied.
